MTBNZ is active in the advocacy area with an Advocacy Committee comprising Guy Wyn Williams, Kevin Hague and Bryce Buckland. The group is primarily focused around the long effort to have the Heaphy Track reopened to Mountain Biking. After achieving a legislative change that allowed non-motorised Mountain Bikes to be managed separately to motorised vehciles in National Park Management Plans, the group are now awaiting a partial review of the Kahurangi National Park Management Plan to be completed.
The Advocacy Committee have also submitted on Department of Conservation’s regional Conservation Management Strategies (CMS) which are one of the public’s only chances to advocate for the establishment of new MTB tracks on DOC managed land.
MTBNZ is represented at meetings of the NZ Conservation Authority by Lindsay Gault.
MTBNZ is represented at stake holder meetings of the NZ Walking Access Commission by Jeff Carter, jeff@southstaradventures.com
